Examples Of Cause Related Marketing 1

Today’s examples of cause related marketing are especially appropriate for publishers and information product business owners.

Examples Of
Cause Related Marketing
Combining Free Library Information Products
With Presentations

Publishers can collaborate with local libraries by offering a free copy of a book or other information product to the library and doing a presentation at the library on a topic related to the book.

Many local libraries have limited budgets, and nearly all will welcome a free information product. Just giving your book or information product to the library is not an event to warrant media coverage, but when combined with a presentation, it becomes one.

Most libraries will provide rooms for free presentations that provide a community service. So this example of cause related marketing costs you nothing but your time and expertise.

But it gives you the opportunity to sell and autograph books or products in the back room at the end of the presentation. If your presentation relates to something news worthy and to your book, it can also give you valuable publicity.

Even if you don’t sell any books, the publicity and contact information from participants will often lead to eventual sales.

Thus, the library, the business owner, the presentation participants, and the library’s readers all benefit. And that’s the beauty of all examples of cause related marketing. Everybody wins.

Donating A Portion Of Book Proceeds

I also know small publishers who donate a portion of the income from each book sold to their favorite charities. People are more likely to buy something they want anyway if they believe they are helping others.

I know one small publisher who has built her business this way. She combines it with speaking at women organizations. It’s easy for her to get the speaking engagements because each organization leader knows that all back-room sales will benefit the charity.

She also displays her charity policy on her Web site. She contends that it improves her sales.

Examples Of Cause Related Marketing

For Publishers

I’m providing examples of cause related marketing this week. Yesterday’s post provided an example specifically appropriate for retail stores. The introduction for this series is linked below:

Examples Of Cause Related Marketing 1

Today’s post provides examples of cause related marketing for professional offices.

The examples of cause related marketing in this post include one for a medical office, a lawyer’s office and an accountant.

Example Of Cause Related Marketing For Doctors

A doctor’s or dentist’s office can assist the local County Health Agency by giving shots or other medical care for people without insurance. The medical professionals benefit by publicity from the event and the good-will it creates. The County Health Agency benefits by getting volunteers, and the people benefit by getting the health care.

Examples Of Cause Related Marketing
For Lawyers and Accountants

A lawyer’s office can do the same with a local legal assistance organization, and an accounting office can collaborate with an Area Senior Citizens organization to provide free tax preparation.

Although these professional offices may not get patients or clients directly, the good will and publicity often does generate additional leads. That’s true of all the examples of cause related marketing provided in this series of posts.

Plus, many people who need help now will later become able to pay services. They will usually select a professional they already know. This is especially true if the professional has helped them in the past.

They may also provide positive word-of-mouth marketing to friends and family who are able to pay for services. But for this to work, you need to provide printed information with your contact information for them to take home with them. A publication about the service provided works well. Just be sure it contains your contact information. Everyone won’t keep the publication, but many will.

Tomorrow’s examples of cause related marketing will apply specifically to small publishers and information product business owners. You can link to it here – Examples Of Cause Related Marketing For Publishers.

Examples Of Cause Related Marketing
For Professional Offices

This post provides examples of cause related marketing for retail store owners. It is the second in a series of posts on the topic and the first of three posts providing examples of cause related marketing.

You can access the first in this series from the link below:

Examples Of Cause Related Marketing 1

Example of Cause Related Marketing
Shoes And Clothing For The Needy

A shoe store owner can collaborate with its local shelter that temporarily houses abused women and their children. Once a year the store can run a special where it offers a discount on new shoes if the customer returns a pair of good condition used women’s and children’s shoes.

The shoes are donated to the shelter so the women and children benefit. The shoe store can sell additional shoes during this promotion so the store benefits.

This idea will also work with a clothing store. Women in the shelter are sometimes unemployed and don’t have appropriate work clothing. So getting good-condition work clothing is necessary for them to find employment. It benefits them, and getting the extra sales benefits the clothing store.

Example of Cause Related Marketing
Coupons For Organization Fund Raisers

Another way that retail stores can collaborate with non-profit organizations is to provide them with coupons to use in their fund raising. If several stores in a town all contribute coupons for a
nonprofit organization to sell, the coupons have value. The nonprofit makes money and so do the stores. And the coupon purchasers save money.

Whether the coupons are for percentage of products purchased in the stores, or even for a set amount of money off products, the stores make money because it gets more people in the stores. Most people will spend more than the set amount on a coupon. I always do.

And of course if the coupon is for a percentage of a one-time purchase, the more the customer buys at that time, the more valuable the coupon is to the customer. So the store may make even more. The percentage off should be at least as good as a good sale, but it only applies to the people with coupons and covers anything in the store. That way the store and the customer both benefit.

If you decide to use the coupon example, be sure to establish an expiration date and post it on the coupon. When several stores are participating together on this type of promotion, it’s best if all the expiration dates are similar.

These examples of cause related marketing boost sales for retail stores, but variations can stimulate other types of businesses too.

Tomorrow’s post will provide examples of cause related marketing for professional offices. If you come here after it is published, you can link to it here – Examples Of Cause Related Marketing for Professional Offices.

Examples of Cause Related Marketing

For Retail Stores

This series of posts provides examples of cause related marketing to inspire you to include this type of marketing in your marketing mix.

Cause Related Marketing
Collaboration Between Businesses
And Non-Profit Organizations

Cause related marketing involves a for-profit business collaborating with a non-profit organization to benefit both, and the community.
Many businesses profit from people’s desire to help others. Take the Ronald McDonald House as one of many examples of cause related marketing. McDonalds would still do quite well without sponsoring the Ronald McDonald House, but they definitely bring in additional sales because of it. They also help families of sick children and earn loads of good will.

Cause Relating Marketing
Builds Win-Win Relationships

Cause related marketing is all about win-win relationships. Everybody involved benefits from either profit, publicity, help or helping others.

Not only can it be profitable for your business, but if you believe that you eventually get back what you give, it’s good for you beyond the money it brings into your business. And the publicity, goodwill and reputation add even more benefits.

There are market segments that only support businesses that help people and communities. Through market segmentation, you can determine if your potential customers are in this market segment. If they are, you’ll find the examples of cause related marketing in this series especially helpful.

Building Your Business
With Cause Related Marketing

But your business can benefit from cause related marketing, regardless of your target market. It can win customers and clients. Plus, it’s the right thing to do. And I can’t imagine it hurting you with any target market. So it’s safer than many marketing strategies.

This series of posts will provide several examples of cause related marketing, with each post targeting a specific type of business.
