I understand why you would think the product should come before the target market. However, doing so risks that you&#039;ll spend limited resources on a product that no one wants  and won&#039;t buy.

That&#039;s why the target market should come first. After determining the target market, you can research their problems, concerns, wants and needs. Only then are you ready to develop a product to sell to your target market.

Many small business owners make the mistake of developing a product and then trying to find a market for it. Frequently they can&#039;t. 

 So it&#039;s vital to determine your target market first.
