The dofollow movement gets November’s roundup. It’s just a bit late.

I choose it partially because it’s on my mind after redoing my dofollow blog list again in November and writing several posts on it.

What Is The Dofollow Movement
And How Can It Help You?

If you don’t know what dofollow means, see What Are Dofollow Blogs?

The dofollow movement is composed of bloggers, who remove the dofollow command for comments on their blogs.

The idea is to reward bloggers and site owners who take the time to read a post and leave a relevant comment about the post. The reward is a linkback to the commenter’s blog or site.

I’ve published several posts that discuss the dofollow movement. I summarize and provide links to each below:

How Dofollow Blogs
Enhance Linkbuilding

Marketing with Dofollow Blogs and Dofollow Linkbuilding

Google determines your site or blog’s popularity by how many links that are pointing to it. And commenting on dofollow blogs is one of the easiest ways to build lots of links.

This post reveals my experience with linkbuilding and introduces resources for dofollow blogs and dofollow linkbuilding. It also provides dofollow resources to assist in dofollow marketing.

I also publish a list of dofollow blogs at Dofollow Blogs, Search Engines and Directories For Dofollow Backlinking.

Many online marketers use the resources on this post to guide their dofollow comment program. Not only does it provides lists of dofollow blogs and directories, but it also contains many comments that express the dofollow/nofollow debate.

I update the lists after each Page rank change. So I’ve written several posts revealing statistics and insights after each Page rank change. You can read these at the posts linked below. They also provide tables to clarify changes by the Page rank of dofollow blogs.

How Page Rank For Dofollow Blogs
Changed During 2009

1-09 Page Rank Changes For Dofollow Blogs

A total of 75 (44%) blogs lost Page rank with the January update. Another two that were originally ranked 2 are now reported as “no page rank available.” If they are added, those loosing Page rank number 77 and account for 45 percent of all blogs in this study.

3-09 Page Rank Changes For Dofollow Blogs

The most noteworthy change between January and March Page Ranks is the decrease in dofollow blogs that lost Page Rank. Only a third (37%) of the dofollow blogs lost Page Rank in March compared to more than half (55%) that lost during the January Page Rank changes.

Page Rank Improvement Was Illusive In March ‘09

Only 16 blogs of the 170 dofollow blogs that I follow showed Page rank improvement. All but one of them improved by one point. Blogs with Page ranks of 1, 2 and 3, that improved by 1 point, represented 14 percent of all blogs with those Page ranks.

6-09 Page Rank Changes

The greatest proportion of dofollow blogs for each Page rank represented maintained the same Page rank from March to June.

For blogs with Page ranks of 4 (74%) and 0 (72%) almost three quarters kept the same Page rank in June that they had in March. That’s good if your blog has Page rank of 4, but not so good if you’re blog ranks a zero and failed to improve over the three month period.

9-09 Page Rank Updates

The vast majority of dofollow blogs for each Page rank maintained the same Page rank from July to September. You can see those with no change (D0) by Page rank listed in the table. But the table shows percentages across rows for the total change rather than for the Page ranks.

10-09 Page Rank Updates

Of the accessible blogs on my lists, 34 (26%) increased in Page rank by one or two. Only 8 (6%) decreased. Most 79 (61%) kept the same Page rank, while Google didn’t rank another 8 (6%) (shown as NA on lists). So overall, the Oct. 30 updates helped more dofollow blogs than it hurt, and it helped more lower Page rank blogs than higher ones.
