Cause related marketing involves a for-profit business collaborating with a non-profit organization to benefit both, and the community.
Many businesses profit from people’s desire to help others. Take the Ronald McDonald House as one of many examples of cause related marketing. McDonalds would still do quite well without sponsoring the Ronald McDonald House, but they definitely bring in additional sales because of it. They also help families of sick children and earn loads of good will.

Cause related marketing is all about win-win relationships. Everybody involved benefits from either profit, publicity, help or helping others.

Not only can it be profitable for your business, but if you believe that you eventually get back what you give, it’s good for you beyond the money it brings into your business. And the publicity, goodwill and reputation add even more benefits.

There are market segments that only support businesses that help people and communities. Through market segmentation, you can determine if your potential customers are in this market segment. If they are, you’ll find the examples of cause related marketing in this series especially helpful.

But your business can benefit from cause related marketing, regardless of your target market. It can win customers and clients. Plus, it’s the right thing to do. And I can’t imagine it hurting you with any target market. So it’s safer than many marketing strategies.
