Latino Marketing For Medical Practices: 3 Ideas You Can Implement
Posted by Linda in Consumer Market Segments, tags: Latino marketing for medical practicesTo attract more patients with Latino marketing for medical practices, you need to know the major health problems for Latinos.
Marketing with information about these health problems appears relevant to Latinos.

The major health issues for Latinos are listed below with ideas for marketing each.
Latino Marketing For Medical Practices
Marketing Idea 1 – Cooking Classes
Latinos have twice the risk of becoming diabetic than Caucasians. With the relationship between Type 2 Diabetes and obesity, it’s no surprise because they are also more likely to be obese. Both problems relate to their diets.
To help Latinos improve their diets and health, you could sponsor Latino cooking demonstrations patterned after those sometimes sponsored by expensive cookware.
The instructor should be a bilingual Latina, who speaks Spanish, and cooks traditional recipes with healthier ingredients. For instance she could use non-saturated oil and low-fat cheese rather than lard and high-at cheese. She could also demonstrate low-carb tortilla recipes.
Part of the draw to get Latinos to attend is that they get to eat the food. In the process they can learn that a healthier diet doesn’t have to mean giving up the food and flavors that they love.
Because you and your practice sponsor the demonstrations, Latinos will think of the meal as a gift from you. They will also understand that you are interested in their health and will be more inclined to trust you and visit your practice.

Marketing Idea 2 – Breast Exam Clinic
Another health problem that may be related to the Latino diet is larger tumors when Latinas get breast cancer.
You can sponsor a clinic where a Spanish speaking Latina does free manual breast exams and teaches each Latina to do her own regular breast exams. You can hold the clinic at your office on a Sunday afternoon. This acquaints the Latinas with your facility so that if they decide to visit a medical practice, they will more likely choose yours.
To promote the clinic, you can work with local churches with a large percent of Latinos in their congregations. Work with the clergy in the churches so that they will post flyers in Spanish about the clinic for at least two-weeks in advance, and will remind the congregation of the clinic the Sunday that it is held.
You may even want to designate separate clinics for each church. Or in the case of large Latino congregations, you could do clinics by age or “Sunday School” classes.

Marketing Idea 3 – Flue Shots
One of the main causes of death for Latinos is influenza and resulting pneumonia. Most community health departments offer free flu shots at the beginning of flu season. The health department provides the vaccine, but often needs volunteer health professionals to administer the shots.
Often community health departments provide vaccine to be administered at sites besides the health department office. Sites where Latinos congregate will be most effective. Churches with Latino congregations make excellent sites.
You can collaborate with your local health department, build on your relationship with Latino churches, and save lives by volunteering you and your professional staff to administer the shots at the churches.

Conclusion
Each of these three marketing ideas require a commitment of finances and resources. However, because each provides a community service, it’s probable that local civic and charity organizations will collaborate with you. They may be able to help you offset expenses or just help promote the events.
Local media will often promote and cover such events, giving you good publicity that reaches throughout and beyond the Latino community. For instance, you may primarily be giving shots to Latinos who can’t afford to pay. However, several segments of Latinos who have good jobs with health insurance prefer to give their business to organizations that support the Latino community.
In addition, to building a relationship with Latinos, you’ll be building relationships with community leaders, church clergy, and the media. Plus you’ll be building a good reputation for yourself and your practice.
